Joan DeMerchant is an independent
consultant to nonprofit organizations and
religious institutions, specializing in strategic
planning, board development and human resource
development (including executive searches).
She provides customized facilitation and training
in a wide variety of topics and is considered
a leading nonprofit consultant and facilitator
in the Kansas City area.
Joan has worked with nonprofit
organizations for her entire career. For ten
years, she was a Senior Management Consultant
and Associate Director at the Center for Management
Assistance in Kansas City, MO. In that capacity,
she consulted with and/or provided training
to hundreds of area nonprofits. Her experience
in Kansas City, Milwaukee and Detroit includes
consulting, curriculum development, adult education
and training, public speaking, program administration
and volunteer coordination. She has done church
related leadership development and consulting
at the local and regional levels in the Great
Lakes area and at the national level.
Joan has written articles, reviews,
educational textbooks and technical materials
for both adults and youth and has edited national
and local newsletters. She holds degrees in
theological studies and in fine arts and has
done post-degree and continuing education studies
in education, management and training. She is
experienced in outcomes-based planning and is
certified in the Drucker Self-Assessment model.
Joan has taught at a number of colleges and
universities and received an Outstanding Graduate
Adjunct Professor Award from the Park University
Graduate School of Public Affairs. She is a
Fellow of the Midwest Institute for Nonprofit
Leadership at the University of Missouri-Kansas
City.
Joan has served in a variety of
volunteer roles, including board and committee
service in a number of organizations. She enjoys
creating art, singing with the Sweet Adelines,
playing the accordion and freelance writing.
